Foscarini lighting was born from the renowned glass factories of Murano situated just across the water from romantic Venice. Since the early 1980s, the company has grown to become one of the leading contemporary lighting brands in the world, noted for its fun and exciting designs.

The Foscarini Hall of Fame
Featuring over thirty designers, from Werner Aisslinger to Marco Zito, The Ferrious Foscarini lighting range encompasses a wide range of approaches and techniques. Among the more recognisable names you will come across are Rodolfo Dordoni and Tom Dixon. Click here for more info on Foscarini

Born in Tunisia, Tom Dixon OBE moved to Britain at the age of 4. His designs are largely created from welded metal, a pleasure he discovered while fixing motorcycle frames. Having served as head of Habitat and Artek, he is also associated with a trademark ‘fluoro’ orange colour. His Lightweight ceiling pendant is among the design gems in the Ferrious Foscarini range.

Rodolfo Dordoni hails from Milan and has been responsible for the art direction of many leading brands, including the Italian lighting giant Artemide (also featured by Ferrious) and Foscarini. The Ferrious collection includes Dordoni’s Lumiere lamps (available as floor, table, wall and ceiling lights), and his New Buds pendants.

Foscarini Aplomb LightGoing Natural?
If you prefer your lighting to follow natural lines, Foscarini lighting have a few designs worth exploring. For example, there is the cigar-shaped Havana lamp by Jozef Forakis; the attractive Birdie lamp, with its twig-like protrusions, invented by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba and the gently glowing polyethylene Gregg stones, also by the Italian duo. The Gregg stones are now available in a weatherproof and knock-resistant version suitable for outdoor lighting and can be purchased in medium, large and extra large sizes to accentuate the natural feel.

Light up Like the Lido
The popularity of Foscarini lighting was evidenced in the brand’s presence at the Hotel Villa Laguna on the Venice Lido. The Gregg stones were part of a carefully selected collection used to light up the Venice Movie Stars Lounge, adding subtle accents to enhance the beautiful horizon. The lounge also displayed Marc Sadler’s weave-like Tress lamps, also available through Ferrious.

An Eye for Innovation
Foscarini lighting are still proving that they are in touch with the contemporary lighting scene. Three designs (each available through Ferrious) featured in the 2012 ADI Design Index publication. They were the Colibri floor lamp by Edoardo Fioravanti; the Behive by Werner Aisslinger and the Maki pendant lamp designed by Nendo. The Behive, with its pure form and sculptural appeal, has been used in the company’s recent advertising campaign.

The use of light is central to the ambience of any room, and the design expertise of Ferrious combined with the variety found in the Foscarini collection are a potent combination in bringing your vision to light. Ferrious are a design-led company, so please contact us for advice.
